Anemia and Pregnancy
Anemia is a condition where there is a lack of enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen to the body tissues. Anemia can make you feel tired and weak. In pregnancy, anemia is usually due to low levels of iron in the body.
Anemia is especially common during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. If anemia is left untreated, it can become severe. Untreated severe anemia, especially during the first two trimesters, can increase the risk of preterm birth and delivering a baby with low birth weight.
