Engaging and Supporting Families through Good Times and Tough Times

September 27, 2022 @ 1:30 pm. - 3:00 pm.

This session will explore reasons why some families may not engage with services and supports. We will also explore what we learned from families about the support they needed and could not access during the pandemic. Discussion will include what agencies and policymakers need to be thinking about when reducing services during events such as the pandemic. During the presentation, Dr. Chaya will talk about how service providers can adapt their approaches to engaging families that reflects the challenges families may be experiencing and strategies that have been effective and those that have not.

Chaya Kulkarni, BAA, M.Ed., Ed.D; Director, Infant and Early Mental Health Promotion (IEMHP), Learning Institute, The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto
About:

Dr. Chaya Kulkarni is the Director of Infant Mental Health Promotion (IEMHP) at The Hospital for Sick Children, a national organization which improves outcomes across the lifespan through translating and promoting the science of early mental health into practice with families during pregnancy, infancy, and early childhood. Dr. Kulkarni has over 25 years of experience in a number of leadership roles including frontline service delivery, policy analysis, research, and curriculum and resource development. Prior to joining IEMHP, she was VP, Parent and Professional Education at Invest in Kids, and has also served as Senior Policy Analyst and Researcher for the Office of the Official Opposition, Queen’s Park. Dr. Kulkarni is a member of the Board at Family Day Care Services and an adviser to Dolly Partons Imagination
Library.
