SUMMARY:Reclaiming Indigenous Understandings of Autism and Neurodivergence
DESCRIPTION:In recognition of Autism Awareness Month\, the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute\, the University of Saskatchewan Department of Pediatrics\, and Autism Services Saskatoon are collaborating to host Dr. Grant Bruno for a webinar on Indigenous perspectives on autism. \nIndigenous peoples remain significantly underrepresented in autism research\, policy\, and practice. Drawing from his lived experience as a parent and a member of Samson Cree Nation\, Dr. Grant Bruno will explore how Indigenous worldviews\, knowledge systems\, and community strengths can inform more meaningful and culturally grounded supports for Indigenous families with autistic children. This session will highlight the vital role of culture\, connection\, and land-based teachings in fostering healthy environments\, and will offer practical strategies for integrating holistic Indigenous approaches within Western service\, clinical\, and educational systems. \nLearning Objectives \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nDescribe Indigenous cultural and social perspectives on autism.\nApply Indigenous knowledge and holistic approaches to better support Indigenous families with autistic children

SUMMARY:Virtual Bicycle Safety Classroom Education
DESCRIPTION:Bicycling is a great way for students to get around\, enjoy the outdoors\, and keep active. Despite its amazing benefits\, injuries can and do occur. Join staff from the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute and Saskatchewan Health Authority Acquired Brain Injury Education & Prevention for a LIVE virtual presentation about bicycle and helmet safety. The session includes a 45-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute question and answer period. Topics covered during the presentation include: \n\nWhy safety matters\nYour brain and the importance of protecting it\nBike helmets\nBike fit\nRules of the road\nArm signals\n\nStudents are strongly encouraged to bring their bicycle helmet to learn about proper fit through hands-on practice. \nThis interactive presentation is a great introduction to bicycle safety for young riders in Grades 1 to 5 that can be used in conjunction with a planned bike rodeo or as a stand-alone activity. It is FREE for all Saskatchewan classrooms. Presentations for Grade 1 to 3 classrooms will occur on May 12 and 13\, 2026\, with presentations for Grade 4 to 5 classrooms occurring on May 14\, 2026. \nAdvanced registration is required. DESCRIPTION:Opening the Door to Difficult Conversations toolkit workshop is for Saskatchewan adult allies to build capacity to engage youth in conversations about alcohol and alcohol-related harms. The sessions provide training about the concepts of facilitation\, youth engagement\, adult allyship\, being trauma-informed\, and creating safe spaces. Trained adult allies gain access to the toolkit and are able to utilize it according to their group’s needs when engaging with youth.
