Integrating Trauma-Informed Approaches into Clinical Practice: Practical Skills and Tools to Engage Clients in Complex and Sensitive Health-Related Conversations

September 16, 2026 @ 9:00 am. - 4:00 pm.

This engaging in-person training is designed to help public health professionals build confidence and practical skills for navigating sensitive health-related conversations with clients. Through interactive learning, discussion, and reflection, participants will explore how trauma and life experiences influence health, behaviours, relationships, and responses to care. Grounded in trauma-informed practice, the training will strengthen participants’ ability to provide routine, comprehensive, and stigma-free sexual health services. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and Positive and Compensatory Childhood Experiences (PACEs), and examine how these experiences can affect individuals throughout their lifespan. The training will equip participants with practical strategies to create supportive, compassionate care environments that foster trust, encourage engagement, and reduce barriers to care. Participants will also have opportunities for reflection, knowledge sharing, and peer learning while benefiting from the insights and expertise of a healthcare professional with decades of experience supporting clients through complex and sensitive health-related conversations. This training is ideal for public health professionals, particularly nurses who are new to trauma-informed care or who wish to strengthen and enhance their practice. Participants will leave with practical tools, valuable insights, and evidence-informed strategies that can be readily applied in clinical settings.
