The Make the Connection (MTC) program empowers parents and caregivers of infants (birth to age three) with practical tools to nurture secure attachment and build strong, healthy relationships from the start. Grounded in the latest psychological research, this evidence-based program supports early brain development, emotional well-being, and secure attachment.In this virtual training, early years professionals will receive a comprehensive walkthrough of the MTC Facilitator Guide, explore the program’s weekly topics, and gain practical strategies for program delivery. Led by Nicole MacRae, participants will leave equipped with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to deliver the Make the Connection program to the families they serve.

Brent McKee, KidsFirst Yorkton
Attachment shapes how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. In this presentation, Brent will explore the importance of attachment across the lifespan and share the history and impact of the resource The Hand You Hold Is the Legacy You Leave. Participants will gain practical strategies to support parents and caregivers in fostering secure attachment through deep listening, understanding, and responsive connection — strengthening the early relationships that influence lifelong wellbeing.

    Nicole MacRae
    About:

    Nicole MacRae is a Maritimer who lives and works on Prince Edward Island (Epekwitk), on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. Nicole is a clinical therapist who specializes in trauma, perinatal, and infertility therapy. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Prince Edward Island, a Masters of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University, and is a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Therapist and EMDR Therapist. Nicole lives with her spouse, her two kids, and two small dogs. Outside of work, Nicole loves spending time with her family, playing hockey, writing, and travelling.

    Brent McKee
    About:

    Brent McKee has more than 30 years of experience as a Social Worker and Senior Mental Health Worker in east-central Saskatchewan. He currently works with KidsFirst through the Saskatchewan Health Authority, supporting families with young children. Throughout his career, Brent has worked extensively in rural mental health, taught and supervised Social Work students at the University of Regina, and co-authored a chapter in Rural and Northern Social Work Practice: Canadian Perspectives. His current focus is on families with children under three, with particular interest in maternal mental health, trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, and the social determinants of health. Brent brings practical experience and compassionate insight to his work, helping communities and professionals better understand how early relationships shape lifelong wellbeing.
