Presenter
- Dr. Angela Bowen PhD
- About:
Angela was a Registered Nurse and trained Midwife and is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Saskatchewan. She has extensive clinical, educator, and administrator experience in Women’s Medical and Mental Health. Her research focus on understanding the mental health of mothers and vulnerable women, brought these areas of expertise together.
Angela retired to care for her husband, but she continues to co-lead a provincial working group that has developed policy recommendations to address gaps related to maternal mental health, including having World Mental Health Day proclaimed in Saskatchewan, the first to do so globally. World Maternal Mental Health Day is the first Wednesday in May.
Angela was involved in projects related to Aboriginal maternal health in Australia, and prior to retirement, projects to improve access to culturally secure births in Saskatchewan. She is presently consulting with a northern First Nation who are working to develop a free-standing birthing centre.
Angela has mentored 30 graduate students. She is a prolific presenter and author of refereed articles, book chapters, and other knowledge translation activities related to maternal health. She is a proud mother and grandmother which led to her publishing “Today’s Grandmother: Your Guide to the First Two Years.”
