Community Action for Prenatal and Child Health Program (CAPCHP)

The Community Action for Prenatal and Child Health Program (CAPCHP) is a federal initiative of the Public Health Agency of Canada to meet the evolving needs of families and communities by providing more integrated and coordinated support across the prenatal, postnatal, and early childhood periods. In 2026, CAPCHP was created by merging two long-standing programs: the Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) and the Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP).

The CAPC project at the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute supports the educational, resource, and networking needs of the other CAPC projects in Saskatchewan.

CAPCHP includes two streams of activities:

Prenatal and postnatal health education and support
Parenting and child health education and support

The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute sponsored a CAPC project from 1993 to 2026. This work continues under CAPCHP, building on decades of experience supporting service providers who work with parents, caregivers, and families across the province.

The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute’s current CAPCHP project focuses on the following priority health areas:

Prenatal and postnatal care (e.g., pregnancy, postnatal, and newborn care)
Child development and early years education (e.g., developmental milestones, early learning)
Parenting education (e.g., parenting skills, positive attachment)
General child and family health (e.g., nutrition, mental health, healthy lifestyles)

The CAPCHP project works to support the educational, resource, and networking needs of service providers in Saskatchewan, including other provincial CAPCHP projects, to strengthen their work with parents, caregivers, and families.
