
The Perinatal Substance Use (PSU) 101 Training is a two-day, live introductory training designed to build foundational knowledge and understanding of substance use during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The training will explore approaches to providing trauma-informed, culturally safe, and evidence-informed support to pregnant, postpartum, and newly parenting people.
Day One: Participants will receive an introduction to:
- Language matters
- The effects of substance use in pregnancy
- Withdrawal management in pregnancy
- Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) in pregnancy
- Chest/breastfeeding, substance use & harm reduction
Day Two: Participants will explore A basic introduction to:
- The importance of wrap-around support and building a village
- Approaches and tools to provide best practice support that aims to be trauma-informed and culturally safe
- Supporting through transitions in and out of acute care, institutions and through engagement with child welfare
- Resources for professionals and pregnant, postpartum and newly parenting people
- Closing roundtable sharing
