This presentation examines the impact of screen time on young children’s social-emotional and mental health well-being. Excessive screen time has been linked to difficulties in emotional regulation, attachment, and the development of empathy, all of which are critical for healthy social and mental health outcomes. Prolonged screen use can interfere with vital caregiver-child interactions, which play a central role in fostering secure emotional connections and promoting resilience. To guide families in supporting the social-emotional well-being of young children in a digital age, this session will provide practical strategies to help caregivers minimize the risks of screen time and will share techniques for moderating screen exposure.
